A HEALTHY Worship and Arts Department has nothing to do with the size or age of the church, the popularity of the leader, the volume of the sound, the brightness of the lights, or the number on the team. Many of us have been to larger churches, yet we have been disappointed with the worship. Something was “missing”. We have also been to smaller churches and knew that it was “right”. We couldn’t explain it, but somewhere in the fabric of the Worship and Arts Department was the favor and presence of God…and it was obvious.
So, what makes a Worship and Arts Department healthy? What makes it “right”? What do some ministries have, that others are definitely lacking?
In this survey, we will look into the following SEVEN different areas of the local church:
>> the TEAM: How do they function? Do they even get along? Are they motivated, consistent, loyal to the vision? If they were the only members of the church, would people still attend? When the audience sees the team on the Sunday morning stage, what do they see?
>> the WORSHIP LEADER: Obviously, without a healthy leader, you will not have a healthy team. It all starts and ends with the leader! Explain their spiritual life? Growing? Mature? What do you think of when you see their family? Their children? Is the worship leader writing songs for the church?
>> CREATIVITY: A healthy team is a creative team. If all you’re doing is performing worship “cover tunes” the exact way you heard them on the CD, you’re not fulfilling God’s design for your team. When people see your drama production, is it something they could see at a thousand different churches in your area?
>> SKILL: Someone with a “heart of worship” still must have the skill to lead others. Is your team living up to their potential when it comes to the stage? Do they have the skill for music, drama, dance, etc? When people hear your music, do they know that you’ve practiced? Have you practiced?
>> SPIRITUAL LIFE: A great program without the presence of God is simply that -- a program. Does your team know God -- really know God? What songs are being written out of the heartbeat of the team and their personal worship experience? During practice, do you feel the presence of God? If the hand of God was removed from your team, would anything change?
>> the SENIOR PASTOR: It doesn’t matter how healthy your team is, if the senior pastor is out of order, so is the Worship and Arts Department. When people see your senior pastor, what do they see? A professional, a pastor, a friend? How about their family? Do you want to model their home life? Are they passionate about the different ministries of the church or only those that affect the main stage?
>> the CHURCH: Is your stage strong, but other ministries of your church weak? How about the grounds and building? Out of date? When people in your community hear the name of your church, what comes to mind? What are the staff relationships? Is your church “in love with the 80’s” or are they utilizing the latest media to engage and meet the culture where they are?
God’s desire for your team is to be HEALTHY! A healthy Worship and Arts Department will grow, create, mature and experience all that God has designed for them to be. Discover today the health of your department!
